Recommended Route

Start in Madrid for museums, plazas, food markets, and a soft landing. Then take the train to Seville for architecture, tapas, and slower evenings. Finish with Granada if Alhambra tickets and transport line up cleanly.

Barcelona can be excellent, but it makes this specific route wider and less relaxed. For a first solo fall trip, Madrid plus Andalusia is more coherent.

How the Days Should Feel

Madrid days can carry bigger museums and evening food plans because transit is straightforward. Seville should be slower, with mornings for major sights and late afternoons for wandering when the light improves. Granada needs the most structure because the Alhambra controls the day.

Solo travel works better when dinners and returns are easy. Choose lodging where coming back after a late meal does not require complicated transfers.

  • Book the Alhambra before treating Granada as fixed.
  • Choose train times that arrive before dark when changing cities.
  • Keep one open Madrid evening for a repeat neighborhood or last-minute show.
  • Use food tours or small-group walks when you want easy social time.

Tradeoffs

This trip gives up beach time and northern Spain depth in exchange for culture, food, rail simplicity, and strong fall weather. It also avoids renting a car, which keeps the solo logistics lighter.
